Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge

Distance from hotel: 11.3 miles

Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1963 under the authority of the Migratory Bird Conservation Act for use as an inviolate sanctuary or any other management purpose expressly for migratory birds. The refuge is considered to have one of the best existing wetland habitat areas along the Atlantic Coast. The intensively managed freshwater impoundments have become important stop-over sites for spring and fall migrating shorebirds and wading birds. Endangered and threatened species management activities provide habitat for the Delmarva fox squirrel nesting bald eagles and migrating peregrine falcons.

Georgetown

Distance from hotel: 14.4 miles

Since 1791 this community has been the Sussex County Seat. The town was laid out in a circle still surrounded today by buildings built from 1791 through 1926. Among them you will find the Old & New Courthouses, The Mansion House, The Brick Hotel, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The Nutter D. Marvel Museum is also there with a collection of historic buildings, horse drawn carriages, photographs, newspaper clippings, and Georgetown memorabilia. Delaware Technical & Community College campus houses the Elsie Williams Doll collection. Four million dollars in artifacts from the Spanish galleon, Atocha, are also on display. Georgetown is the home of Delmaco Manufacturing, Inc. who produces static grounding/bonding reels, cables, and latching systems. The newest addition to Georgetown is the Sports at the Beach facility with 16 playing fields for champion baseball games, 30 batting cages, and ponds for fishing, a youth playground and outdoor pool.
