Home to Iowa State University, Ames has a lot to offer. Self-guided beautiful walking tours of art on Iowa State University campus includes sculptures by artist-in-residence (1934 to 1955) Christian Petersen. Reiman Gardens is a beautiful, educational display garden and unique tourist destination owned by Iowa State University. Features include an indoor butterfly wing with over 800 exotic and native butterflies in flight, and an indoor conservatory that changes its display monthly. Story City is home to the Antique Carousel and also the Grand Opera house both dating back to the 1913's. There is also the Brick Museum and 1859 Schoolhouse both containing artifacts and memorabilia. Story City also hosts the annual Scandinavian Days festival each summer featuring food, activities, and fun. Story City is a great place to experience the heritage of this area.
