This park features 400 acres of beauty. Located on county road E-34 in the southwest corner of Anamosa along the Wapsipinicon River the park boasts modern campsites some with electrical hookups. The park features fishing and a boat launch into the river along with two caves (Ice Cave and Horse Thief Cave which at one time was used to hide stolen horses). McDonough Canoe Rental

They have 160 canoes 250 inner-tubes and 20 kayaks. McDonough Canoe Rental is ready to send you floating down the river. Their river trips are fun for the novice as well as the experienced paddlers. Canoe trips begin at the canoe rental located near the Monticello Dam. After you put your canoe in the water prepare for a fun-filled day as you float down the Maquoketa River. The trip downstream to Pictured Rocks Park is eight miles and should take approximately three to four hours of floating time depending on the river level and the stops you choose to make along the way. Some choose to paddle while others choose to relax and take advantage of the day stopping along the way at the many sandbars. About half way down you will enter the spectacular bluffs along the river and those with a sharp eye may see the profile of an Indians head in the high bluff. You will end your trip at Pictured Rocks Park. The lush landscapes of the Maquoketa River offer many opportunities to stop and enjoy; therefore canoes are rented by the day.

Center Junction

This small Village came into existence in October, 1871. During this same year, the Midland branch of the Chicago/Northwestern Railroad connected with the Davenport/Monticello branch of the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad through this young village. Located at the geographical center of the county, and the junction of the two railroads, it naturally took the name “Center Junction”. In 1874, being the true county seat in Jones County, Center Junction lost a fierce contest with Anamosa for the coveted plum. Then, in 1885, this town was incorporated.

In 1842, this small town was the location for the 3rd Post Office in Linn County. Mail was received by horseback weekly. The town was incorporated in 1881. This small village got its beginning in the spring of 1871, when the first building, a general store was erected where the Lynch Bros. Meat Market now stands. By fall, the Midland Division of the North-Western Railway was completed through town. In the beginning, the town was named “Franksburg”, after a local stock farmer, S.G. Franks, who started the first stock rail shipments from this section of the county to Chicago. But due to a delay of goods, being shipped to Franksburg, Minnesota by mistake, and never to have happen again, the new name “Onslow” was given. Named after the Governor of Maine, the town was incorporated in 1888.

The hotel, built in 1878, operated as a hotel until 1932. Featured is a unique display of pharmaceutical items used in Wyoming's past dating back to the Civil War, and old-fashioned ice cream parlor and a 1926 Cleveland Indians baseball uniform worn by Emil Dutch Levsen (formerly of Wyoming). Dutch was the last major league pitcher to pitch, and win, two complete games of a double header.
