Overall a nice budget hotel. I'd place this hotel some where between a Super 8 and a Hampton Inn for quality. The room was large and very clean. The furniture was in overall good condition. The bath towels were a bit thin, not worn, just not high quality. The room was quite and you didn't hear much noise from the hall or parking lot.
The hotel advises that they have a tavern on site. I ducked my head in and it was completely empty, didn't even see any employees, yet it was during its operational hours.
Overall, I'd stay again when the per diem does not allow an upgrade.
Thank you for your recent review of our property. You mentioned that the room was large and very clean and I appreciate that as my staff and I take pride in the cleanliness of the property. We are currently in the process of doing some upgrades which include better quality towels. The furniture is also another item on my list for improvements for this year. While the bar was not busy during your stay, it is typically the most busy during the week nights. The front desk representative also works in the bar. I have recently been working on promotion ideas to improve the bar atmosphere. I hope that on your next visit to the Des Moines/Grimes area, you are able to enjoy some of the updates I put in place and have a beverage in our Iowa Tavern.

This is place I would recommend to anyone. The rooms were clean and quiet. Free WiFi & HBO were great. The free breakfast in the morning was way better than I expected. Many choices to eat. They had a lounge that stayed open til 2am and served pizza til then. The pool and spa stayed open till midnight with the last hr adults only.
Only beef we had was it was confusing getting to it & there was small mess up in what we were charged ( that got taken care of with no problems). Advice book online ahead of time and save money.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a few nights while we were in Des Moines for a wedding. We had stayed in various AmericInn hotels in the past and were looking forward to it. We arrived late on our first night to find that the room was not cleaned very well. The computer desk had not been wiped and there were various spills on it. The bathtub had a ring in it and the shower curtain rod was falling off the wall. The towels were raveling on the ends, and the sheets on the bed were worn. Since we had come in late, we placed the "do not disturb" sign on the door. We must have taken it off too late the next morning to get our room cleaned. When I inquired about it later that afternoon, I was told it would be taken care of, it was not. The next day when our room did get cleaned, the bed was made and the towels were changed out, but the carpet did not get vacuumed. This was obvious because some items were dropped on the carpet when the trash was emptied, but they were left on the ground. When we used the spa, it was obvious that the staff did not pay attention to the pool area, as the trash can was overflowing and the dirty towels were spilling out on the ground. It seemed as though with a little attention to detail the hotel would have been a great place to stay, instead it was somewhat of a disappointment for the price we paid.

In addition, it is my housekeeping supervisor's duty to make sure that the rooms look immaculate before they are rented. This is truly a training opportunity for the housekeeping department.

Very clean rooms! Comfortable beds and friendly staff! Pool was just right! This was our 1st hotel stay in 10 years, a first for 3 of our 4 kids. They loved the adventure! We chose the Grimes location because of its proximity of where we were going to be, the pool, and based on other reviewers comments. Ben at the front desk was very helpful and provided us with extra bedding for an air mattress we bought at Walmart since all the roll-a-ways were already taken. We would definitely stay there again!
