Completed in 1825 Fort Snelling was the hub of the Upper Mississippi area for over 30 years. During the Civil War Fort Snelling was a Union training center and during World War II processed and trained over 300000 US Army soldiers. Closed at the end of WWII the fort was named a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and has since been rebuilt and restored.
