Bad service low budget hotel mold in rooms roof leaks grounds are a mess they never clear ice in the winter. Garbage and junk all around the outside of the hotel old vans debri - not a great place to stay. Price is way to high for the condition of the hotel. Water valves in shower work backwards and are wore out you get all hot scalding or all cold

This hotel was previously a Holiday Inn, and was taken over by Americinn a few years ago. They have attempted to upgrade the facility and make it more attractive, and it appears generally clean. However, there are some key things that travelers should be aware of if choosing to stay here. I have now stayed in this facility multiple times over the past two years, and at its best, this is a very average hotel. At its worst, it is simply an over-priced embarrassment for the city of International Falls. On our most recent visit, we attempted to use the $25 discount coupon that Americinn had sent us for being loyal patrons. Despite being assured when we made the reservation that the coupon would be honored at check-in, the hotel staff was unfamiliar with this Americinn corporate promotion and declined to honor the award voucher. They would not even research - they simply said "no". The room was incredibly noisy and cold - we tried to use the heater and it was so noisy that we had to turn it off in order to get some sleep, and suffer through temps in the low 50s all night long. We tried to call the front desk to get a different room and no one ever answered the phone.
At check-out the next morning, there was no one at the front desk again - literally no one. When we loaded our luggage in the parking lot, we noticed a lady smoking in a corner of the building and asked her if she worked there and could get us our bill - she replied she would get it when she finished her cigarette. We waited, and waited, and waited, and finally gave up waiting. This was another example of the rude and inattentive staff at this hotel - there was no manager on duty, and we finally gave up trying to speak to one.
The morning buffet breakfast is "gross" - it is simply not worth any extra money you are being charged as part of the room rate. Leftover stale doughnuts, watered down juice from the broken juice machine - burned coffee in Styrofoam cups, and powdered scrambled eggs are not a breakfast.
This place is going downhill fast - there are other similar chain hotels in the Falls you can stay at and have a much better experience. I would definitely advise anyone considering staying in the Falls to shop around - there are better places, that are much cheaper around town, that have a staff that are friendlier and more attentive. Americinn is generally an OK chain - not sure why this facility is run so poorly...

Check in was slow, too much for one person to handle, continuous phone calls and people wanting to check in. Back entrance key card lock wouldn't work, which was very annoying as the entry the door was in was hot and humid, especially when holding 80 pounds of luggage. Taking a chance that my things would be OK while I ran around into the main office and to the back door proved doable. Annoying to use the main lobby door each time I entered the building, as my room was just three doors down from that other entrance.
Taking a shower wasn't joyful. After several minutes of trying to adjust to the perfect temp, I was interrupted with scalding hot, and then freezing cold water. My shower would have taken half as long, had I not had to stand in the corner of the shower and try to correct the temps four or five times.

Decent place to stay, comfortable, good location and reasonable rates. But, the jewel of this place us the restaraunt. 5 star chef makes it all fresh from scratch. No microwave food here. Server was fun, informative, and human with us. View was nice from restaraunt across river. The bar was great too. The bartenders were friendly, great servers, and joined customers in conversations together. Was a lot of fun and we will go back some day.

I have stayed here 35 nights in four stays during June-Sept 2013 for business in I-Falls. My work colleagues recommended this hotel. I would give the hotel a 3.5 if I could, but opted for the 4 over the 3 because I think they are improving.
I found the beds comfortable and generally slept well. There were occasional boisterous celebrations on weekends. It seems popular for wedding receptions.
The breakfast options typically were four cereals, scrambled eggs (most days), hard boiled eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon or sausage (occasionally), yogurt, muffins or pastries, toast, bagels, bananas, apples, oranges, coffees, teas, milk, and juices. In general, the breakfast area is kept well-stocked. Only one morning of my stay did I find the scrambled eggs warmer empty for a short period. On the last two days of my most recent visit, a good fresh fruit salad was available. Occasionally they get behind on keeping the tables clean in the breakfast room, but I was always able to get a table. During most visits I would pick up some baskets of berries from the nearby market to add to my cereal in the morning. The small refrigerator worked well for this and for dinner leftovers, which I would reheat in the microwave.
The housekeeping was generally good, but a bit spotty during one stay in their "executive" wing. Some of the rooms are in need of a bit of paint and patching -- banged up walls and door frames. Maintenance seems to take their time with things -- opened shipping containers and broken tables left in hallways for several hours to a couple of days were unsightly. On the last visit, I used the heater. It worked well and was not too loud for me.
I used the Wi-Fi frequently for work and found the signal strength good. I used their small fitness room in the evenings, but only once was there someone else using it at the same time. They have a pool, but I never used it. If you like fishing, you can cast a line from the backyard shore into the Rainy River.
I would stay here again.
