Georgetown Delaware

Since 1791 this community has been the Sussex County Seat. It is located 15 miles southeast of Milford along Route 113. The town was laid out in a circle still surrounded today by buildings built from 1791 through 1926. Among them you will find the Old & New Courthouses, The Mansion House, The Brick Hotel, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The Nutter D. Marvel Museum is also there with a collection of historic buildings, horse drawn carriages, photographs, newspaper clippings, and Georgetown memorabilia. Delaware Technical & Community College campus houses the Elsie Williams Doll collection. Four million dollars in artifacts from the Spanish galleon, Atocha, are also on display. Georgetown is the home of Delmaco Manufacturing, Inc. who produces static grounding/bonding reels, cables, and latching systems. The newest addition to Georgetown is the Sports at the Beach facility with 16 playing fields for champion baseball games, 30 batting cages, and ponds for fishing, a youth playground and outdoor pool. Restaurants in the area include, J. W. Pickles & Friends, Chinatown Buffet & Grill, Flight Deck Restaurant, Arby’s, & Domino’s Pizza.

Dover Delaware

The City of Dover, founded in 1683 by William Penn, is located in Central Delaware in Kent County and is the capital of Delaware. Dover is approximately 90 miles south of Philadelphia, PA, and 90 miles east of Washington, DC. It is 20 miles north of Milford. Dover is the home of Dover Air Force Base which houses one of the largest military freight terminals in the world and has the only mortuary services on the East Coast. Visit the Air Mobility Command Museum, where old airplanes get a second life. Free to the public, Jet fighters, WWII bombers and C-133 are there for the family to climb inside and explore. Movies and flight simulators are also great to explore and displays change on a regular basis. Many historic homes and government buildings surround Legislative Mall on Loockerman Street in downtown Dover. Also located on the Mall is the Biggs Museum of American Art, noted for its fine art, furniture, and silver collections. Other fine museums in the area include the Johnson Victrola Museum, the Museum of Small Town Life, the Delaware State Police Museum, the Delaware Agricultural Museum, and the John Dickinson Plantation. Dover International Speedway located along Route 13 is host to June and September NASCAR races. Dover Downs Casino and Raceway is a premiere slots casino and harness racing track with simulcast. Wesley College and Delaware State University are located in Dover. Dover is home to manufacturing giants such as Playtex Products, Scott Paper, and Kraft Foods. Fast foods abound along Route 13 along with chain restaurants such as Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday, Lone Star, IHOP, Denny’s, TGI Friday’s, and Friendly’s.

Lewes Delaware

 The AmericInn of Milford is located only 23 miles from this charming town. Lewes is the first town in the first state. There are many shops and restaurants in the area. The Cape May-Lewes Ferry is located here and it is a great way to see Cape May, New Jersey.

Rehoboth Beach Delaware

Located on the Atlantic Coast only 30 miles south of the AmericInn of Milford, Rehoboth Beach is famous for resting and soaking up the sun or taking a dip into the fabulous well guarded ocean. Everyone loves to walk the one mile Boardwalk--getting a taste of Rehoboth along the way--yes, caramel corn, french fries, pizza, and ice cream do taste better here....it's the salt air. Try enjoying your treats while listening to a free summer concert at the new oceanside outdoor bandstand pavilion. You can take advantage of a wide array of tax free retail, from corporate outlets to the enticement of one of a kind, high-end fashion boutiques, art, gift and specialty shops. If all the walking, sunning and shopping works up your appetite...you will find many, many award winning restaurants ready to serve you.

Bridgeville Delaware

Bridgeville, located 20 miles south of Milford boasts the Town logo, “If you lived here, you would be home now”. Bridgeville is one of the oldest surviving communities in western Sussex County and is agriculturally oriented. Industries include Pet Poultry, a preprocessor of animal food products for the pet food industry, O.A. Newton, a leader in Material handling Systems, and Rapa Scrapple, manufacturer of scrapple and pork products. Bridgeville has become renowned in the area for the Apple-Scrapple Festival held annually the second week of October. Among the town’s restaurants is Jimmy’s Grill, a home-cookin’ style restaurant well-known for its large portions and fabulous desserts. Jimmy’s Grill Catering is one of the premiere catering establishments in the area.

Seaford Delaware

Located on the banks of the Nanticoke River, Seaford is 27 miles south of Milford on US Route 13. Activities abound along the River. There is a River Walk to stroll, a Canoe Launch and Boat Launch area for the large-mouth bass enthusiast. Hunters will find a variety of wildlife including rabbit, dove, quail, deer, geese, duck, and snipe. Unique to the River is the Woodland Ferry. Established in 1793, this cable-run ferryboat crosses the Nanticoke seven days a week at no charge. The Seaford Museum holds a bounty of Nanticoke Indian artifacts and items of historic Seaford from its founding to the present day. The Ross Plantation contains Delaware’s only documented log cabin slave quarters. The Mansion itself was built in 1859 and is furnished in authentic Victorian style. Tours may be arranged by appointment. U.N.O.I. Mill is over 10 years old and still has the original corn stone in use to create products sold today. Seaford contains the original DuPont Nylon Plant, giving Seaford the title, “Nylon Capital of the World”. The plant operates today under the name Invista. Among the many local fast food and family oriented restaurants, you will find a Texas Roadhouse (steaks, ribs, chicken), Applebee’s, Pizza Gallery, and the two most noted in the area, The Diner, featuring home-cooked meals, and the Dairy Bar, with hamburgers, fries, hot dogs and their own delicious ice cream.
