They can accommodate any rental needs whether it is families, groups of friends, small businesses, large corporations, interest groups, youth organizations, or school groups. They have 160 canoes, 250 inner-tubes, and 20 kayaks. McDonough Canoe Rental is ready to send you floating down the river. Their river trips are fun for the novice as well as the experienced paddlers. Canoe trips begin at the canoe rental located near the Monticello Dam. After you put your canoe in the water, prepare for a fun-filled day as you float down the Maquoketa River. The trip downstream to Pictured Rocks Park is eight miles and should take approximately three to four hours of floating time depending on the river level and the stops you choose to make along the way. Some choose to paddle while others choose to relax and take advantage of the day stopping along the way at the many sandbars. About half way down, you will enter the spectacular bluffs along the river, and those with a sharp eye may see the profile of an Indians head in the high bluff. You will end your trip at Pictured Rocks Park. The lush landscapes of the Maquoketa River offer many opportunities to stop and enjoy; therefore, canoes are rented by the day. You can be on the water as early as 9:00 a.m., but all canoes are off the water by 6:30 p.m.
