Located 6 miles from Anamosa, nestled on the banks of the Wapsipinicon River is Stone City. Home to Artist Grant Wood, it was a prominent art colony in the 1930’s. Surrounded by the Stone City Lime Stone Quarry, several lime stone buildings dot this small town. Stop in the General Store Restaurant for good food and relax on the deck overlooking the Wapsipinicon River. The kids can even feed the catfish below.

Located 10 miles WSW of Anamosa, this small community was named for its founding by Scottish immigrants. As you travel along the road, stop to see the Edinburgh Ghost Town and Museum.
Wyoming, Iowa
Located 15 miles W of Anamosa. Known as “Christmas City”, this small town boasts a spectacular canopy of lights during the holiday season. The Hotel Williams on Main Street provides a showcase of the Wyoming area heritage. The hotel, built in 1878, operated as a hotel until 1932. Featured is a unique display of pharmaceutical items used in Wyoming's past dating back to the Civil War, and old-fashioned ice cream parlor and a 1926 Cleveland Indians baseball uniform worn by Emil "Dutch" Levsen (formerly of Wyoming). Dutch was the last major league pitcher to pitch, and win, two complete games of a double header.
Springville, Iowa
Located 10 miles SW of Anamosa. In 1842, this small town was the location for the 3rd Post Office in Linn County. Mail was received by horseback weekly. The town was incorporated in 1881. Stop by and have a meal at Shelly’s or visit Cox Lake Park and Joe Emmons Park. If you enjoy horses, visit Greenbriar Riding Academy for a little Equestrian fun. During the first part of August, is “Springville Fun Days” and one of the stops for the East Central Iowa Pullers Association, Truck and Tractor Pull.
Cascade, Iowa
Located 19 miles N of Anamosa off US Hwy 151. First settled in 1834, was Nicholas DeLong, he and his family began the migration to this small town. During 1858, Cascade was to become a successful manufacturing center. Around the time of the Civil War, Cascade is also birthplace of the low wheel bicycle, which was made out of two small carriage wheels resembling today’s bicycle, except it had no sprocket wheel or chain. Also, is home to Hall of Fame pitcher Red Faber. The Tri-County Historical Museum holds his Baseball history from 1914 – 1933, including the 1917 World Series in which Red pitched 4 games and won 3. Stop and visit the shops in downtown Cascade and do a little antiquing.
Onslow, Iowa
Located 18 miles E of Anamosa. This small village got its beginning in the spring of 1871, when the first building, a general store was erected where the Lynch Bros. Meat Market now stands. By fall, the Midland Division of the North-Western Railway was completed through town. In the beginning, the town was named “Franksburg”, after a local stock farmer, S.G. Franks, who started the first stock rail shipments from this section of the county to Chicago. But due to a delay of goods, being shipped to Franksburg, Minnesota by mistake, and never to have happen again, the new name “Onslow” was given. Named after the Governor of Maine, the town was incorporated in 1888.
