Neighboring Cities - AmericInn® Okoboji, IA

Welcome to the Cities Neighboring our Hotel in Okoboji Iowa!

Arnolds Park, Iowa

Located 1 mile South of Okoboji.  In Arnolds Park, the City of Five Lakes, the emphasis is on entertaining and accommodating area visitors.  Experience the oldest amusement park west of the Mississippi, a premier golf course, a full-service marina and rentals of boats, personal watercraft, wakeboards, scooters and bicycles.  A diverse variety of restaurants, lounges and nightlife abound, including the Roof Garden.  Numerous shops are clustered in several venues and are scattered up and down US Hwy 71. Arnolds Park changes with the seasons.  In the winter, there is a casual, informal atmosphere and in the summer the town is full of activity.  The eclectic people who live here believe it's the best of both worlds.  The five lakes that surround Arnolds Park limit the size of the town's center making it easy to walk to local shops, restaurants and attractions.

Spirit Lake, Iowa

2 miles North of Okoboji.  Spirit Lake is a great stop for all the services you would expect to find in Dickinson County's largest city.  Locally owned and operated clothing stores, gift shops, pubs, eateries, and a comedy club dot the quaint main street in uptown Spirit Lake.  To the west, you'll find industries that make fun happen, such as Polaris Industries and Pure Fishing. With the influence of these businesses and the excellent fishing in the city's lakes, locals consider Spirit Lake the "Fishing Capital of the World."

Spencer, Iowa

Spencer is only 15 minutes south on Hwys 71 and 18.  Take in museums, theatres, sports, "city style" shopping and dining.  Each September they're home to the World's Greatest County Fair.  The Spencer area offers hunting, canoeing, fishing, a Miracle play-ground, state park, and miles of bike trails as a few of their recreational opportunities.  A recent addition, the Clay County Regional Events Center, will be host to a variety of activities from concerts to conventions.

Ocheyedan, Iowa

Located 25 miles west of Okoboji.  Home of "The Mound."  Just southeast of the town of Ocheyedan, the Mound rises an impressive 170 feet above the surrounding flood plain.  It is one of the highest points in Iowa -- 1655 feet above sea level.  Only two miles south of Hwy 9, the Mound is reached by a concrete and blacktop road.  The site itself lies almost next to the road, and is readily accessible to visitors.  It is long thought that the Mound was an Indian burying ground.  This was disproved when geologists investigated and found that it was a kame, of glacial origin. Kames are hills and ridges of stratified drift deposited by glaciers at the mouths of ice tunnels or ice channels, and in angles of ice. The Mound was formed during the recession of the Wisconsin ice sheet, the last glacier to invade Iowa, many thousands of years ago.

West Bend, Iowa

Located 65 miles southeast of Okoboji, West Bend is home of the Grotto of the Redemption, the largest Grotto in the world.  Frequently called "the Eighth Wonder of the World," the Grotto represents the largest collection of minerals and petrification concentrated in any one spot in the world.  The Grotto of the Redemption is a composite of nine separate grottoes, each portraying a scene in the life of Christ and His work of redeeming the world.
