Fort Madison set beside the Mississippi River and is home to the Old Fort Madison, a re-construction of the first military fort built on the upper-Mississippi. Fort Madison also features the double-decker Santa Fe Swing Span Bridge built in 1927. The Fort Madison Art Center showcases local artists with rotating monthly exhibits. Mount Pleasant is located 25 miles northwest on Highway 34 from the AmericInn of Burlington. Mount Pleasant is known for its hosting of the annual Old Threshers. At Old Threshers there are plenty of amusement rides, concerts, and games. Oakland Mills Nature center offers interactive exhibits for all ages and is great for family fun and has a working bee hive. The Theatre Museum is home to a collection of memorabilia from early American entertainment. It includes costumes, stage props, scrapbooks, scripts, and more.

Farmington is located 35 miles from our Burlington hotel, and is known for its annual Strawberry Festival. Located right outside of Farmington is the Shimek State Forest which has hiking trails and a shelter perfect for those afternoon picnics.
Nauvoo, Illinois
Nauvoo, Illinois is located 25 miles southwest of the AmericInn of Burlington. Nauvoo is home to the Mansion House, built in 1843 for Joseph Smith and his family. Old Nauvoo is one of America’s best sites for authentically restored homes and businesses that were built during the 1840’s. The Nauvoo Temple was built in 1841 and is located within the Old Nauvoo. Nauvoo is also home to Baxter’s Vineyards/ Winery that was established in 1857 by Emile Baxter. Baxter’s Vineyard/Winery offers wine tasting and daily self-guided tours.
Keokuk, Iowa
Keokuk is located 40 miles of our Burlington hotel. There are many attractions in Keokuk including the Grand Theatre. The Grand Theatre, which was built in 1924, hosts live entertainment and is one of the little remaining “hemp” houses. Keokuk is also the host of the Bald Eagle Appreciation Days, Civil War Reenactments, and the Rollin’ on the River Blues Fest.
