Welcoming to the Surrounding Areas of Hailey, Idaho

Sun Valley and Ketchum

Located 12 miles north, for more than 70 years, families have been drawn to the magical mix that is Sun Valley/Ketchum, Idaho. Many of them come for white-carpet grooming and challenging bowls of Bald Mountain. But, just as many are entranced by the small-town charm and surprisingly sophisticated vibe of downtown Ketchum. And no one who visits is untouched by the pristine beauty of the Rockies. At 5,920 feet above sea level, Sun Valley takes the warmer months to new heights. Powdery slopes give way to perfect greens. High-speed quads on Baldy transport hikers and bikers to high-alpine terrain. And all that winter snow melts into summer whitewater adventures and blue-ribbon fishing. Add in all the festivals, concerts and gallery walks and you'll see why there's a lot to the Go Higher spirit even when winter takes a well-deserved vacation.

Twin Falls

Twin Falls (pop. 36,000) is perched on the edge of the Snake River Canyon on the high plains of southern Idaho. Unpopulated until about a hundred years ago, extensive irrigation of the Snake opened up this arid plateau to farming and habitation. Twin Falls has grown into one of Idaho’s largest cities, with both a strong rural presence and the thousands of students at the College of Southern Idaho. Despite the name, the most impressive falls nearby are actually the Shoshone Falls, an impressive waterfall taller than Niagra. The Snake River Canyon itself is an impressive sight, brought into the national spotlight in the 1970s by stuntman Evel Knievel, and the Sawtooth National Forest to the south features hiking, camping, and skiing. The scenery is enhanced by clean air and brilliant night skies undimmed by light pollution.

Stanley

Located about 70 miles to the north, amid the splendor of the Sawtooth Mountains, Stanley is an unforgettable playground for all seasons. See it during a day of fishing, biking, rafting, hiking, climbing, skiing, or sledding. Feel it while soaking in a natural hotspring after a nature walk, visiting a ghost town or historic museum, reading a favorite book by the lake, or skiing through a quiet winter wonderland. Sense the wonder, watching Chinook salmon return home after swimming 900 miles to their birthplace beneath the peaks, or viewing wildlife in meadows full of wildflowers.
