There is a statue at the depot reminding us how we came upon our name. Mrs. Fulton, wife of the town founder William Fulton, was watering her garden one day when a gentleman jumped off the train and wanted to know the name of the new community. She called it Fulton Town , but she wasn’t fond of the name and the stranger told her she should call it Garden City because of her beautiful garden and so it was renamed.

Dodge City- The AmericInn of Garden City, KS is located 45 miles from famous Dodge City. Boot Hill Museum with the 1872 replica of Front Street where the Longbranch Saloon and such men as Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday, and Bat Masterson were lawmen and gunfighters died with their boots on and were buried in the Boot Hill cemetery. Dodge City has museums, an indoor shopping mall, Ft. Dodge which is now a Soldiers Home, Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame, Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame, and many places to eat and enjoy history.
Liberal, KS- Heading south 67 miles from the AmericInn of Garden City, KS you will see Liberal,KS which is home to the Mid America Air Museum with over 50 planes and is the 5th largest collection of military and civilian air-crafts. Follow the yellow brick road to Dorothy’s House located at the Land of Oz Museum.
Scott City State Park and Lake - Located 15 miles north of Scott City, KS, it is a quick 50 mile trip from the AmericInn of Garden City, KS. It is a picturesque oasis with many historical sites and lots of history. Scott City has a museum and the Keystone Gallery which is a sod home.
Meade, KS- It is 78 miles southeast from the AmericInn of Garden City, KS and the Dalton Gang Hideout shows how the Dalton Gang came and went without any attention drawn to them underground.
