Area Travel - AmericInn® of Douglas, MI
Welcome to Beautiful Michigan! Read about Douglas attractions and things to do during your stay:
Welcome to Saugatuck and Douglas, two harbor villages nestled along the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan. Settled in the 1800s by lumber interests, Saugatuck and its sister village, Singapore, were thriving communities and contributed much of the lumber to rebuild Chicago after the Great Fire of 1871. When the trees were gone, the blowing sands were free to cover the village of Singapore and today it only lives in legend. Saugatuck & Douglas, however, survived and their quaint architecture drew a group of artists who established the Ox-bow Art School, which today is affiliated with the Art Institute of Chicago. The area's reputation continues to grow and thrive in the art of learning, the art of nature and the art of relaxation.
