Welcome to Winona, MN, founded in 1851 by a steamboat captain, Winona is actually a large island in the Mississippi River. The Mississippi River Valley is surrounded by large limestone bluffs that rise about 500 feet.
Winona is home to two universities, Winona State and St. Mary's, both of which offer a variety of four year degrees. It is home to many cultural events such as the Great River Shakespeare Festival, Steamboat Days, and many museums.

Garvin Heights Park - This scenic drive and overlook provides a magnificent view of Winona and the Mississippi River beyond. On a clear day, see 20 to 30 miles up and down the river valley.

Winona County Historical Museum - Housed in a 1915 brick fortress recalling its original purpose as an armory, this is one of the largest historical society museums in Minnesota. Displays of artifacts of Winona County's history include a stained glass window exhibit, Main Street as it may have been, timeline of county history, library and archives.
