Famous Courthouse featured in the movie "The Grapes of Wrath." This beautiful structure was completed in 1911 at a cost of $69000. Designed by the architectural firm of Layton Wemyss Smith and Hawk it was built by Oklahoma Quarries and Construction Company. The building is a symmetrical blend of Neo-Classical and Second Renaissance Revival styles. Outstanding features included colossal Doric columns above the main entryway classical pilasters a grooved surface on the ground floor and distinctive belt courses. The most unique part of the design was the dome with a colonnade supporting a vaulted and gabled roof. On top of that was a smaller dome reproduced to scale.

Honey Springs Battlefield is the site of the largest Civil War battle in Oklahoma fought by Indian white and black troops – including the first black regiment to be organized for the Union. It features graveled walking trails and a visitors’ center with interpretive exhibits displaying arms and equipment and biographical histories of participants.

Situated on 15 acres of lush grass and trees McLain Rogers Park houses several historic WPA projects including a 400 seat outdoor amphitheater. Pavilions picnic areas children’s play park an Olympic size swimming pool and water slide and an 18-hole mini golf course top off this historic family park.

Toy and model train museum with over 250 model trains in several gauges and over 200 pieces of memorabilia. Our operating model accommodates up to 12 trains at once including lighted porcelain houses accessory pieces and train sounds. Visitors will learn the history about railroads when everything from soup to hay was brought to us.

Oklahoma’s only behind-the-walls rodeo takes place every year at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary. This is an exciting event for the whole family! Professional cowboy/cowgirls compete against inmates in an IPRA sanction rodeo that is 2 hours of non-stop action and entertainment. Take a day trip to Robbers Cave State Park located in the scenic hilly woodlands of the San Bois Mountains of southeast Oklahoma near Wilburton OK. Just 30 minutes away from the AmericInn this park is a favorite of rappellers cave explorers equestrians hikers and outdoor lovers. Robbers Cave also enjoys notoriety as a former hideout for outlaws. The park and adjoining wildlife management area offers acres of discovery and enjoyment including caves trout fishing in season boating hunting trails for hikers and horses sandstone cliffs for climbing and rappelling and fall foliage viewing. Picnic tables comfort stations with showers boat ramps a swimming beach swimming pool with bathhouse playgrounds miniature golf hiking trails paddleboat rentals and a nature center with naturalist programs/exhibits round out the park's facilities.

This 19100 acre preserve of pristine prairie features uniform flatlands to adventurous terrain known as the "breaks." Three live creeks flow across the area. Wildflowers deer bobcat good bird watching and hiking opportunities are available April through August. Area is also open to hunters September through March.

There is also a playground swimming pool (a 1940's WPA project) and a large pavilion for group activities. Sayre City Park also has three stocked fishing ponds a popular area for the youngsters in town and is surrounded by a lighted walking trail. A lighted rodeo arena is also available where the Grand National Horse Association finals are held the last full week of July every year.
