Huron, South Dakota
Huron, located 50 miles north of our Mitchell hotel offers a unique mix of services, entertainment, and recreational opportunities ranging from beautiful parks, golf courses, and walking trails to riverside fishing, paddle boating, miniature golf and swimming. Huron is also home to a state-of-the-art Medical Center and the Huron Event Center and the Arena.
In addition, Huron has many annual events including the Huron Ringneck Festival, SD Women's Expo, the Antique Power Show, Wheel Jam, Parade of Lights, Stock Car Racing, and the SD State Fair, just to name a few. Many points of interest include The World’s Largest Pheasant, Dakotaland Museum with artifacts representing the heritage of Huron and Beadle County, the well preserved Pyle House Museum, as well as the Railroad and Model Train Museum.
Huron has a wide variety of outdoor activities available for all ages, from hunting and fishing to spending time on beautiful Lake Byron or at the James River. Outdoor activities include walking trails and the Maga TaHohpi Waterfowl Production area. Toboggan Hill located is great for winter fun. Huron also offers 73 miles of groomed snowmobile trails connecting to other trail systems throughout the state.
Plankinton, South Dakota
Plankinton, just 24 miles to the west, offers many community-oriented organizations which sponsoring year-round events and home to a local Historical Museum as well as 4-H Achievement Days and the County Fair (August).
Many recreational activities in the area include: Pheasant Hunting - Hunt in prime pheasant hunting area (October - December), East River Deer Hunting - (Fall), Fishing and Boating - at lakes nearby, Plankinton Annual Lawnmower Poker Run (June), Community Theater Productions (August).
Area lakes include Twin Lakes, open to the general public for camping, swimming, fishing and boating, and Wilmarth Lake open to general public for fishing and boating. Plankinton is just a short 40-mile drive from the Missouri River with some of the world's best walleye fishing locations.
Parkston, South Dakota
Located just 20 miles south of our hotel in Mitchell, Parkston provides retail, medical, professional, educational and recreational opportunities. Parkston has fertile farmland to help with the agricultural community as well the hunting season for pheasants, deer and other wildlife. Parkston also has a vibrant manufacturing sector as well.
Missouri River
Located just an hour from Mitchell, the Missouri river offers some of the world’s best walleye fishing locations as well as breathtaking scenery.
