We got into the room and had to bring down the clock since it was buzzing and the fridge nozzle just fell into my husbands hand when trying to adjust, the shower was awful and they don't offer dvd players! They charged us $150 for a king suite and there was nothing special about it at all and quite frankly could here something clanking outside the window all night long!! And won't be surprised when the manager tries to justify this crappy hotel since the other reviews show that!

We arrived at the hotel about 12:30 pm on Sept. 27 and were told we could not check in. The clerk, Roxanne, was not helpful at all. She told us there was no way we could check in until 3 p.m. We called about 1 hour later to see if the room was clean & could we check in--again no not until 3. Then she called our sister who had stayed the night before and said we could get into our room before 3 for $20. I have never heard of this!!!! So we decided about 2:15 to take our luggage to our sister's room and checked in later. When we finally checked in later that night as we were there for a family reunion dinner we were quoted the incorrect price and told that was the lowest price. Fortunately when we checked out my cousin thought to ask if that was really the lowest price and we were told no that there was a senior price which we did get. We will never stay at this hotel again after our experience this year. We have stayed at this hotel for the past 4 years and have noticed how expensive it has become, the hotel needs a total update, especially the rooms--dirty and worn. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Next year we plan on staying at a hotel in Duluth!!!! Plus now that a McDonalds is being built in the back of the hotel it will be very noisy in those rooms.
I am sorry for th confusing upon your arrival. Yes we do have an early check in fee. However. Ther is some flexibality to the policy. The girl that checked you in is brand neww and was a little overzealous in appying the policies. Again I am sorry. And it is true that even with the Fee , We can not guarentee a room will be cleaned and ready for check in for these early arrivals. And when you request a special room, it is even harder to promise. And unfortunatlly, the room you wantd had been smoked in by the out going guest and therefor required extra cleaning and running the air purifier.( and yes we did charge that guest the penalty fee for the extra cleaning).
Your family comes here about once a year. I would hope that this 1 incedent would not prevent you from coming back. Whether it does or not, I wish you Health & Happiness.

We had a large group of people staying here for a destination wedding in the area. The wedding started at 3:00 but the hotel would not let anyone into their room until 2:00 without charging them $20!! The WORST customer service I've ever experienced! I've traveled all over and have stayed in many Americinns and have never had to pay to get into my room early. Then to top it off the girl at the front desk gave several of us the wrong directions to the wedding! Other than the bad hotel experience the wedding was beautiful & perfect.
Have you ever made reservations at a resteraunt? Or a doctors appoitment? Have you ever shown up 2 to 3 hours early and gotten right in? I am sorry that the wedding was not planned for the guests convience. We did have several of the guests that were more than willing to pay the fee. And they contacted the hotel in advance. But our check out is at 11 am. We need that 3 hours to be certain that the rooms are properly cleaned and ready for the next guest. The early check in fee allows us to bring in a housekeeper early to wait just in case a room checks out early. As for the directions, I think the bride and groom supplied maps. Our check in and check out times are listed on your confirmation letter. if you required something more you would only have had to call the hotel. I am glad that you enjoyed the wedding. ishing you health and happiness.
My sister and I always stay at the Americinn when we go to Moose Lake to visit family. The staff is exceptional and the hotel is clean and cozy. Our every need is immediately attended to with a friendly smile! We look forward to our next visit!

I stayed here over the past weekend as it was one of the only big hotels around (and smaller motels kinda creep me out). This place was $140/night, so I was expecting a rather nice hotel. While it's decent, it is not even close to worth the price. This is a regular run of the mill hotel stay w/ nothing fancy and very is basic/generic looking. Rooms are not updated and are quite plain, and the only thing I liked was the continental breakfast in the morning. Before checking in, I was emailed my total cost w/ tax for the 2 nights I was staying which came to $289, I had reserved this on my debit card, and had just over $300 on that card upon check in. When checking in they asked if I wanted to use that card and I said that was fine (thinking this would be my total). When I checked my bank acct I was charged $324 which caused an overdraft in my bank account. I contacted the front desk and was told, oh well we authorized 10% more for a security deposit (however, mine was authorized for 20% more). I told them about the overdraft and that no one told me my card would be authorized for more than the total I was given and if I would have known this, I would have made sure to use another card or transferred money over. They just shrugged their shoulders at this and basically chalked it up to that this should be common knowledge and I should have know. The email back from the GM manager told me they expect customers to "know their finances." How rude. I did know them, and I think this was their fault for not letting customers know about the $40 extra authorization on the charge. Needless to say, not happy and the email back from the GM made this worse as she was quite rude. Would not recommend.
While I am sorry that you received over drafts on your card, I would hope that you realize that when you present your card at check in, it is authorized for your complete stay as well as a security deposit. The security deposit is to cover any long distance calls, food charges to the room and/ or any damages or missing items from the room, Ect... This is a common practice among hotels. If you are ever unsure What your card is authorized for, Please feel free to ask at check in. And always be certain that your card has enough to cover unplanned incendentals.
