The first room I checked in to was a King. There was an open beer bottle in the room (half full) and the bedding was pulled down. The carpeting was also damp. There were no more King rooms available and was given a double Queen. I pulled down the comforter and it was obvious the sheets had not been changed (but the room appeared to have been cleaned and prepared for a new guest without the sheets being changed between guests). There were also socks in between the bottom and top sheet. I told staff. They gave me one extra set of sheets/pillow cases and I remade the bed with clean linen. The other bed in the room had dirty sheets on it as well, but I did not change those sheets b/c I did not use that bed. Also, when I went to turn the TV on, there was no power. I had to get behind the dresser and flip a switch on the power strip to resume power to the TV, Microwave and Refridgerator. The Refridgerator was dripping water because the power had been off. When I checked in, yes, they did everything they could do to make it better (I checked in around 10pm). Upon checking out I mentioned (different staff member) the issues I had. She had one excuse after another and I was only compensated $20 off of my first night at the motel (I stayed 2 nights). All I wanted to hear was "that never should have happened and we have taken steps to make sure it doesn't." Not, "there was a miscommunication with the cleaning staff...." blah blah. The rooms appeared to have intentionally looked as if they were cleaned, but did not cover up their laziness well enough.

I wanted to give a good review but the management and organization of this place was just awful. We booked a handicap accessible suite for our family which is the only way to guarantee ground floor for our little ones. When we checked in they offered us a king bed, we declined. They said they had to give our room to an actual handicap person! AI have no problem with that happening but they didn't even consult with us first and the entire hotel was SOLD OUT. How did they know when we checked in that we didn't require a handicap suite? They resold out room to someone without even knowing if we were requiring that!!!! I was shocked! When we went to check in, we stood there for over 15 minutes without a single glance of eye contact from 3 people working the front desk and assisting only ONE person. Embarrassing. They gave the ole bait and switch and thought we wouldn't notice until we opened our room door and realized that it was NOT a suite. NO STOVE LIKE WE NEEDED! I complained, and they comped us $20. That won't feed my family the meal we would have saved if we could use a kitchen in our hotel, there are 4 of us. Unacceptable. I get home to see an updated email from Americinn with an "updated confirmation" charging us for the king bed room instead of the queen bed suite which was subsequently $197 vs. the $178 we had already confirmed to pay. So they kick back $20 to us after charging us an extra $20? How does that work? What a ripoff which is unfortunate because we have stayed at many AmericInn's previously and always had a good experience but I will not allow a hotel to rip me off and provide awful customer service and swap my room and then access my bank account and take funds from me at will without my knowledge. That is stealing as far as I am concerned. BUYER BEWARE IF YOU STAY HERE USE A PRE PAID CREDIT CARD OR THEY MAY TAKE WHATEVER FUNDS THEY WANT FROM YOUR BANK. On top of that, I went to have coffee and they gave me rotten moldy creamer. And they have NO MOVIES on the TV for families! What hotel doesn't have a movie selection???? Disappointed. Will not stay here again. Poor management, inexperienced staff, low quality of service. This hotel chain deserves better representation.
We stayed at 2 area AmericInn's and this one was way nicer. The hot tub was only half full for some reason but the rest of the stay was worth it. I wish we would have stayed here both nights when we visited the Mall of America.

Stillwater is a touristy town, and there are some fancy resorts and mansion suites on the river. But as far as value, hard to beat the AmericInn. Great price, great hotel, not more than 10 minutes or so from historic downtown Stillwater. Highly Recommended.
