Pros: Good breakfast spread. Lots of choices. Various hot beverages available in the lobby. Rooms and common areas were clean. Room was a decent size- not huge, not tiny. Bathroom was also a nice size, with the sink on the outside, which we prefer. Rooms facing the river had a fantastic view of the Missouri and the capitol building. There is a nice walking path one could use in the summer. The neighborhood is quiet. The front desk staff were very friendly. Check-in went well. We did not notice any funky smells, and I have a very sensitive nose. We liked that they began serving breakfast at six, since we had a sporting event that started at seven. Price was reasonable. We didn't hear many inside noises, but we were on the top floor. We had one maintenance issue that was fixed quickly.
Cons- Hubby and kids said the pool was too cold. The biggest negative for me was the hard bed. I have only run into one other U.S. hotel with a more uncomfortable mattress. My hips hurt if I laid on my side and my back hurt if I laid on my back. I am not a senior citizen, either.
I do want to compare this experience with another area hotel, which is ranked number one. I have only stayed at one other hotel in town, which was the Club House Suites. I was unable to book at the Club House this time because they were full. I found this Americinn across the river in Fort Pierre. Overall, this hotel was better. The breakfast was more extensive, it was cheaper, the view is better and its location across the river means it is not on a lot of people's radar. We drove by the Club House during our stay, and the parking lot was packed. I would guess that the pool and breakfast areas were a mad house. The Americinn seemed much more peaceful. The Club House does have bigger rooms and better mattresses. If I return to town in the future, I will have to decide whether or not the mattress is a deal breaker, because I liked everything else about the Americinn.

I do a lot of traveling on State business which brings me to Pierre quite often. I'm locked in to choosing hotels that take the state rate (which is embarrassing, I might add), and have found AmericInn to be my favorite hotel in Pierre. Many, many others feel the same and that is why it is hard to get a room anymore at the state rate. But I still try and sometimes I luck out - about 33% of the time.
Why AmericInn? They have clean modern rooms, excellent WiFi, great breakfast, a nice bar, and good meeting facilities. Also, all rooms come equipped with a minifridge and microwave. That's a must for me and a big advantage over their competitors. The only real drawback is that the restaurants within walking distance are not that close or great. The only other drawback is that getting a room at AmericInn with state rates is becoming more and more difficult all the time. I hope Butch (the manager) can open up more rooms for state employees. We are a loyal bunch and provide a good business for him and the bar :). When I can't get a room there I always shoot for ComfortInn next followed by HolidayInn Express. After that it's a real crapshoot. Good luck!
Great hotel. Wonderful entry where the staff greeted us promptly. The fireplace was very inviting -and a nice warm touch! Very clean, friendly and helpful staff. The view from our room was a beautiful winter scene. The breakfast was good.
The view from my window was nice part of a great stay.
The Staff was helpful and friendly.
The room was clean and quiet.
For me to give an excellent on any thing just doesn't normally happen.
This over all was a Very good stay.
This was a excellent choice for my 3 day stay in Pierre. My room was spotless, everyone was friendly, the internet was fast and easy to connect to, and the breakfast was very satisfying. I would have no problem recommending this hotel to anyone.
So Glad you had the opportunity to experience our facility and spend time in our wonderful River setting.. Looking forward to your next visit. Staff at AmericInn Fort Pierre
