We blocked more than a dozen rooms over the past weekend at Americinn for several nights for friends and relatives in town for a family wedding. We'd chosen the AmericInn for its location--walking distance from downtown--and updated facilities. We wouldn't choose it again because of the attitude of Erin, the manager.
The rooms themselves were mostly fine, as was the breakfast. No complaints there. The problem was the manager--she doesn't seem to like her job, and seems to resent being inconvenienced by....taking care of guests.
The first problem came up on when the hot water in an entire section of the hotel was shut off with virtually no notice, around 9 o'clock AM, to fix something or other. Suddenly, a number of our wedding party guests were faced with taking a cold shower or waiting for a hot one, which was supposed to be available "shortly." "Shortly" took at least an hour and a half. Highly inconvenient for all who had to wait. When a family member asked to speak to the manager--"Erin"--about it, Erin was surly and impatient with her. She was clearly annoyed and didn't want to be bothered. An apology for the inconvenience? Not a chance.
Next, for several friends who were arriving that afternoon, were problems checking in. Yes, they arrived a little early--around 1:30 when check-in time was 3:00--but no effort whatsoever was made to see about moving their rooms up a little on the priority list for cleaning. All they got was "Our check-in time is 3!" Okay, fine, everyone is in a hurry. But they didn't get checked in at 3. 3 o'clock became 4:30 PM, causing them to miss out on much of an afternoon party on the lake. Had they known it would be so late, they would have come to the party and checked in after the rehearsal dinner. But, again, the worst part was the attitude of "Erin" the manager. No apology. No "Sorry for your inconvenience." Nada. Basically an attitude of "tough luck--I'm busy."
I personally called the manager during this delay and she was every bit as irritated with me as she was with my friends and family who were the guests. No apology, even though I was being as cordial as possible, and she really didn't seem to care much. Just seemed overwhelmed and irritated with having to talk to me.
One final illustration of Erin's attitude. While my friends were waiting to get into their rooms, they saw something in the lobby (not sure what) that they decided to take a photo of. Basically, they were bored and trying to kill time--since they'd been led to believe their room would be available any time...even though it took until 4:30. But as they starting taking the picture, Erin looked up from behind the desk and ordered "No pictures!" My friends complied (I would have told her to get lost) but cracked up at the order. As if this was an airport security check-in station.
Who knows--maybe Erin used to be a TSA agent and is just used to ordering people around and never having to apologize for anything? Frankly, she doesn't seem to belong in the hospitality business. Her attitude was worse than the actual inconvenience of not having hot water and long-delayed check-ins. All she had to do was show a little sympathy and maybe offer an apology for the inconveniences, but that was just too much for her. What a shame.

We decided on a last minute trip, so we had a difficult time finding accommodations. The first room we were given hadn't been cleaned yet, so we literally got the last room. Instead of 2 beds, the new room had 1 bed and a pull out couch bed. The pull out couch bed was very uncomfortable. It was sleeping on springs. The pillows are thin, so don't expect much for your head. There isn't an elevator, so carrying everything up is a challenge. The location is good, seems to be right in town across from a park and lake. There wasn't a lot of parking in the front, but there's more around back. The breakfast was pretty good...

Had a great experience. Obvious that the beds were newer, they were super comfy. Perfect selections for breakfast, wish they would have bacon instead of sausage a few times a week. Staff was super friendly and helpful; no complaints. Great stay
Thanks for staying with us and posting your nice review. I'm glad you were happy with the service and accommodations we provide and appreciate your compliments. I'm sorry about the lack of bacon and apologize for any disappointment you experienced. I hope we can serve you here again.
The rooms are clean and they look recently renovated. The outside could use a paint job. The only
bad things are the jacuzzi had algae and the glass doors in the entry way were filthy. It is located right next to the lake and downtown. The employees are friendly.
Thanks for posting your candid comments about your recent stay with us. We value you as a guest, and I do want you to know that your concerns are our concerns! I will have our maintenance and housekeeping teams follow up on the whirlpool and entry doors. Please stay with us again soon so that we can demonstrate our commitment to your comfort.
