This hotel advertises as allowing a dog, but that is not the same as being pet friendly. At check-in, there was a whole list of "don'ts," threats of charges, and highlighted fees for every specific kind of damage, from a torn bedspread to replacing a pillow. Further, you are not allowed to leave your dog in the room while you are out, which is a complete pain in the backside. It's friggin February in Minnesota, and you want me to leave my poor guy in the car while I have a nice UN-relaxing dinner with friends? Sheesh, I would be staying with my friends except that they live in a no-dogs apartment building, and I don't want to traumatize their cat. I am paying extra to have my dog stay with me, and this IS my home while I travel. Very uncool, people.
This AmericInn treats dog owners like criminals in advance. Even though they claim to have a place to take your dog out on the check-in sheet, there was no real place to take a dog outside. If they mean the strip of grass behind the building, it is inappropriate for a woman alone to walk back there at night: it was creepy as hell.
The grounds were trashy, with broken bottles, plastic soft drink bottles, paper trash and even some pizza stuck in the bushes. Oh, and on check-out, they tell you to contact the desk for a damage inspection one hour prior to leaving. Seriously? Bite me.
As if that wasn't all bad enough, the morning of check out, my friends who lived nearby had to change their church service time in order to meet me much earlier, because after check-out at 11, I could not just sit in the lobby with my dog and read the paper. Oh yes, they made that abundantly clear: No dogs in the lobby.
Here's the deal: obviously, this place had some bad experiences with pet owners and dog damage. Ok, I get it. But the thing is, that's why you have a person's credit card, duh! People can do plenty of damage, too, and that's how it's handled.
My advice to management is that if you're so anxious and obviously angry about a past dog experience, then simply do not allow them! You don't have to, after all. BUT--if you DO allow dogs, don't make it inconvenient, unpleasant, and decidedly UN-friendly for pet owners. Pick one.
Until then, do not stay here if you travel with your pet!
First I would like to thank you for staying with us. I am truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. I can see how you would feel that we have not had great experience with dogs. I will take the appropriate steps to ensure that the challenges you experienced do not happen again. We are one of the few hotels in the area that take dogs and we would love to continue to have them. We do have to be careful with the other guests in the hotel and that is why we are hesitant to allow guest to leave dogs unattended in the rooms because of the fact that some dogs do bark. I want to thank you for your feedback and I hope you will try staying with us again. My team and I will do everything in our power to come up with some different ways to handle these situations.

We were looking for a place to stay near our son's home for our grandson's baptism. Location mattered and as we only needed a place to sleep at night, cost was also a factor. It appeared that the place had recently been refreshed, it was clean, and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was typical for a place like that but the coffee was good. We'd stay again. Good value.
Thank you for choosing to with us! I am happy to hear you enjoyed it. We will be remodeling our breakfast area soon which we are very excited about. Come back and see us again the next time you are in the area!
Wonderful room for the price! Love the fireplace and jacuzzi! Breakfast is same as other hotel chains except better flavor options with coffee. No elevator though so make sure you get a first floor room if stairs are a challenge.
We have stayed at this AmericInn several times in the past several years. It has always met our expectations of an excellent motel. The breakfast has a good variety of food and the coffee is always good. The rooms are quiet and always clean.
Great stay. We got in late after a night on the town. We didn't stay long, but everything was great. Whirlpool was the perfect way to end the day. We will stay here again, and recommend others to as well.
White Bear Lake is a great area for a night out on the town; glad you guys had fine. Thank you for your stay and hope to see you again soon!
